I’m just a very lucky, dirty old man with a wonderful wife. I have opinions on most everything, but will not force them on anyone other than family and friends. They have to suffer with me as no one else.

That time again

Well, it’s that time once more.  The politicians are scurrying out of their dark holes like roaches after dark. It is time for them to get noticed so they may begin that long, winding trek called the “Campaign trail to the White House”.

So far I haven’t seen anyone stepping up and getting noticed who I want in the top government position: President of the United States.  So far we have “has-beens”, “want-a-bes”, “egotists”, “closed-minds”, “no-minds”, “hardcore bureaucrats”, “money grabbers” and “out and out liars”.  That’s not much to choose from!

Until we, the citizens, unite, this is all we are going to get.  The United States is a democratic republic.  Believe it or not, most people don’t know what that is!  I’m sure all the illegal immigrants don’t know what it is and don’t care!  Just in case there is anyone out there reading this and doesn’t know what I’m talking about, I’ll clarify it for you.

A democratic republic is what the term states.  A democracy is where everyone has a voice, whether they use it or not.  A republic is when you have a smaller body of people running the country for the masses.  So, in short, we elect a small group of people to run the country for us.  They should run it the way we want and do what is best for the country as a whole.  As the governing body, they have a fiduciary duty to safeguard the nation and its citizenry first.

It seems most, if not all of the representatives we send to Washington D.C. don’t understand they work for us, not themselves.  The founding fathers set this nation up to help the common man.  They didn’t get it completely right to start with, so everyone has been messing with the government as often as they can so politics is now a career, not a short term service to the nation.  None of the first elected leaders of this nation went home at the end of their term and lived off the government pension they set up!  That little perk came later.

Maybe we should take a page or two from the political book of ancient Rome. First of all, the senators were not paid by the citizenry for their service, but instead they paid to be there.  Granted, they passed laws which made them even richer than they were, but the citizens didn’t have to pay to be lied to as we do.  So, maybe the system hasn’t changed that much after all.  Just a note: the word congress comes from the Latin word congressus which means intercourse.  When was the last time you got kissed by a politician and still had all your money in your pocket and not his/her hand?

Have you ever thought our political system is not so much broken as it is corrupted to the point beyond repair?  Is legal corruption still corruption?  Over the years our political parties and officials have legally corrupted the system to the point it is not longer a government by the people, for the people and of the people.

How can you legally corrupt a government?  It is really very simple!  You change the laws, one at a time, to make the illegal act legal.  Now, how do we fix the problem?  That is not as easy to do.  First, we have to get all the old players out of government and replace them with honest, hard working Americans who only want what is best for the country and not their bank accounts.  Second, these people have to start to change the laws, to reverse the corruption and set new laws up to stop it from happening again.

Over the past several weeks and over the next several months, people will be elected to public office.  Before you put them there to do your biding, think about whom they are and what they have done in the past.  If they are a politician, we don’t need them in office!
